Who We Are

Founder and Co-Leader

HSS was founded by Dr. A with a grant from the Alberta Medical Association's (AMA) Emerging Leaders in Health Promotion program. It has been co-led with Dr. C from 2015 onwards and with Dr. B. They are all (resident) physicians training in Internal Medicine at the University of Alberta (U of A). Dr. A has an interest in public health and preventive medicine as well as medical education. ~ Dr. A

"I often get asked, 'what is Internal Medicine?' Internal Medicine is a medical specialty that addresses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Internal Medicine physicians (also known as "Internists") are trained to manage adult patients who have multi-organ system disease processes and complex medical issues. They can work in hospitals and in clinics in the community. Many of them also do research in addition to teaching and training medical students and residents. Internists can also sub-specialize in certain organ systems/disease processes (e.g., Cardiologists - heart specialists, Geriatrics - seniors'  health specialists). Internal Medicine core (or general) training lasts 3 years. Sub-specialty Internal Medicine training (e.g., Cardiology, Geriatrics etc.) is for 2 years." ~ Dr. A

Founding Medical Student Volunteers

HSS's founding group of medical student volunteers are from the U of A Faculty of Medicine Classes of 2017 and 2018.

They are a diverse group of talented, hard-working individuals who are all enthusiastic about being involved in/giving back to their community and promoting seniors' health/wellbeing! ~ Dr. A
